More about Science at Queen Mary's High School

Science classScience stimulates and excites students’ curiosity by linking direct practical experience with ideas.

Through science, students can understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change, developments in industry, business and medicine and improving quality of life.

In accordance with this, the aims of the Science department at Queen Mary’s are:
  • To stimulate interest in and enjoyment of the study of science.
  • To develop essential knowledge and understanding of the concepts of science, and the skills needed for the use of these in new and changing situations.

To develop students’ ability to:

  • select and use information from a variety of sources
  • form hypotheses, predict outcomes and to solve problems
  • collect, present and interpret experimental and empirical data
  • communicate scientific ideas and arguments logically and concisely

The department is housed in six well designed and fitted laboratories which provide a vibrant and stimulating environment for our students.

From Year 9, students are taught by subject specialists who are very ably supported by three hardworking, dedicated and talented technical support staff.
