Why am I an ICT teacher?  

A (significant) number of years ago I was in the first class in my school to take Olevel (later replaced by GCSE) Computing.  Our equipment was, by today’s standards, very basic indeed. In fact our little computer (1 or 2 for the whole class) didn’t even allow you to save and we were thrilled when we were able to save our programs onto an old fashioned cassette tape.  By the time I progressed to Alevel we had BBC computers and 5 ¼ inch floppy disks.

How things have changed.  Even in my school days I had a belief that computers and ICT would play a big role in my future.  I could see a world that made great use of these machines and a processing power I could only imagine.  I was right, and I still often wonder what role ICT will have in my personal, leisure and working life in the future.

ICT does not stand still but is changing quickly and so is exciting.  This is one of the main reasons I am attracted to it.  What I teach and use now has little resemblance to what I used when I first trained to teach and I expect in another 10 or so years time I will look back at the present and think “I remember when......”.
We are preparing for a future technology that we can but try and imagine.
