Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

ICT is fundamental to participation and engagement in today’s society and that of the future.

ICT classesThe increasing use of technology in all aspects of life means we must ensure that our students are confident, competent and independent users of ICT with the ability to adapt to and adopt new systems easily.  Students appreciate that ICT technologies can be used by everyone within the school and wider communities.

ICT capability includes the mastering of skills and techniques and also the understanding needed to apply these purposefully, safely and responsibly in school, everyday life and future employment and studies.

To achieve this, the ICT department at Queen Mary’s aims to:
  • Equip students with knowledge and skills in a wide range of software applications
  • Stimulate interest in the use of ICT
  • Provide the knowledge, confidence and understanding to solve problems and make decisions relating to choice of software and tools
We aim to develop students’ ability to:
  • Become independent learners
  • Evaluate their approach in order to inform future decisions
  • Gather, select, produce and process a variety of types of information
  • Work safely, being aware of the issues surrounding e-safety
ICT queen mary's high schoolThe department has 3 specialist rooms.

At Queen Mary’s all students will have the equivalent of one lesson of ICT per week during key stage 3 and are given the opportunity to sit a Functional Skills Level 2 examination in ICT towards the end of year 9 giving the chance of obtaining an external qualification in recognition of their achievement.

We offer GCSE ICT as an option subject to students in years 10 and 11. AS and A level ICT is available for study by sixth form students.  In recent years our students have achieved a 100% pass rate at A level with 75% obtaining an A or B grade in 2010.
