Mathematics Year 9
Aims:
In Mathematics we aim to develop mathematical knowledge and higher order thinking skills in a way which encourages confidence and provides satisfaction and enjoyment.
Content:
In Year 9 we will start to deliver the GCSE curriculum and will mainly study topics which will include:
- Number - indices and standard form, errors and estimations; surds.
- Algebra - changing the subject of the formula, quadratic equations and inequalities.
- Shape and space - trigonometry, bearings and circle theorems.
- Data handling - cumulative frequency diagrams, probability.
We are also able to offer the opportunity for the more able Mathematicians to study Additional Mathematics. In order to facilitate this Year 9 will be taught in 4 sets with some of the students in the top sets working towards the additional Mathematics qualification at the end of year 11.
Assessment:
Homework is given once a week and should take about 45 minutes. Tests will be set at the end of each half term with an end of year school examination to assess overall progress.
Maths Surgery will take place on 2 lunchtimes each week and will be open to all girls in years 7 - 9 who are experiencing difficulties or would like extra help with their classwork and/or homework.
