Aims:
In Year 7 we will build on the Numeracy Strategy that has been delivered in primary schools. We also aim to develop mathematical knowledge as well as oral, written and practical skills in a way which encourages confidence and provides satisfaction and enjoyment.

Content:
In Year 7 the work will consolidate levels 5 and 6 but will be also cover level 7 and some level 8 of the National Curriculum. Each lesson will begin with a mental or oral starter as suggested in the National Numeracy Strategy.

Main topics include:

• Number - prime factors, LCMs and HCFs and fractions.
• Algebra - sequences, equations, simplification of algebraic expressions.
• Shape and space - angles, surface area and volume and construction.
• Data handling - pie charts, stem and leaf diagrams and sample space diagrams, scattergraphs, probability.

Assessment:
Homework is given once each week and should take approximately thirty minutes. Assessments will be set each term with an end-of-year school examination to assess overall progress.

Extra Curricular:
Maths Surgery will take place on 2 lunchtimes each week and will be open to all girls in years 7 - 9 who are experiencing difficulties or would like extra help with their classwork and/or homework.
